At Holistic Paws=Waggy Tails we offer Puppy Pre-school and general dog obedience training classes. We know the key to creating a confident, well mannered adult dog, begins with Puppy Training. And for those juvenile and older dogs consolidating the basic skills and proofing behaviours outside the home environment is the next step. Training and having fun with your dog never stops – it is a lifetime investment!

New to Holistic Paws = Waggy Tails is Puppy Swimming Lessons. With Summer in full swing now is the time to teach your puppy how to swim in a safe and controlled environment. Some dogs are more prone to enjoy water, however, the art of swimming is not something dogs are born with. They have to learn how to swim properly and build confidence to swim independently. Our lessons are one on one with a qualified hydrotherapist introducing your dog to the water.

Most Vets will tell you that Puppy pre-school is an important part of your new puppy’s social development. And we couldn’t agree more! Up to 16 weeks of age your puppy’s brain is like a sponge, absorbing all the sights, sounds, smells etc. of their new environment. It is also when their curiosity outweighs their fear, making it a critical time to help them adjust to their new pack (your family) and the human world.

Puppy Pre-school runs for 4 weeks (normally Monday evenings) and is for puppies aged 8 – 16 weeks. Puppy Pre-School focuses on the basics with the emphasis on socialisation and helping your puppy adjust to their new home and wider environment. It also about helping you the owner with any concerns or problems you may be experiencing. Life with a new puppy can be a challenge for owners as well. Topics include toilet training, mouthing, jumping, digging, first aid, nutrition options, vet and grooming desensitisation tips etc. Your puppy will also be introduced to some basic obedience skills such as sit, down and stay.

general obedience classes

These classes build on the basics of manners & obedience skills and is recommended for dogs 16 weeks and over. Classes run for 6 weeks (normally Saturday mornings 9.30am-10.30am) and focus on skills such as extended downs/stay, recall, leave it, loose lead walking vs heel, meet and greets with other dogs/people, off-lead games, enrichment activities for the home and helping with any behavioural problems your dog may be demonstrating. It includes visits to the park to experience training in a more stimulating environment.

SWImming lessons

Most dogs, unless taught early, will not naturally take to swimming. They may play in the shallows but will panic when their paws can no longer reach the bottom. As with toddlers swimming is a skill that needs to be learnt. Why not let us teach your puppy how to swim safely & have fun at the same time. These swimming lessons are suitable for puppies up to 20 weeks.

Attending puppy swimming lessons is a fun activity that will set them up for life. Benefits include:

how to enrol

To attend puppy pre-school your puppy must have had its first vaccinations. All dogs who wish to participate in the general obedience training must be dog friendly. See our private training page if your dog is not properly socialised. Individual training/assessment will be needed prior to attending classes.
